HOW IT ALL BEGAN
It started with something Sue kept running into herself: that women over a certain age, and women who wear a bigger size, are so often treated as an afterthought. The clothes were either shapeless and "sensible," or cut for someone half their age and half their size, and almost never made to truly flatter and feel lovely.
Sue knew that feeling better than anyone, because for years she lived it every time she got dressed. She'd buy things not because she loved them, but because they were simply what fit, something to wear rather than something that made her feel good. She'd walk into shop after shop and leave with nothing, because nothing fit or felt right. She'd order online, hoping a size chart could be trusted, only to open the box and find the fit was nothing like what she'd expected, and then face a returns process that felt like more trouble than it was worth. It happened so often that she'd started to believe that was just what shopping as a plus-size woman meant, settling for something to put on rather than something to actually enjoy wearing. She refused to accept that.
For a long time, that frustration lived mostly with Sue. But her sister Pam had watched it happen for years, and she'd started noticing it too, in her own way, as the clothes made for "women our age" got dowdier and less considered with every birthday. We grew up in Greytown, a small town in the Wairarapa about an hour from Wellington, and we always dreamed of one day opening a little shop of our own, the kind of place where a woman could walk in and actually be looked after. We realised we wanted exactly the same thing: clothes that were well-made, well-fitting, and worth investing in, in every size, rather than another rack of afterthoughts pushed to the back of the store.
So we joined forces. We're Pam and Sue, sisters, born and raised in Greytown, and two women who've spent our whole lives loving beautiful clothes while rarely being able to find them. What started as a small idea between the two of us grew into our own little boutique, tucked away on Cuba Street in the heart of Wellington, where we get to meet so many of you in person. One of us knows firsthand what it's like to shop as a plus-size woman and settle for clothes that merely fit rather than clothes that felt like her; the other brings an eye for what feels current and easy to wear. Between us, we know exactly what it takes to get it right, and exactly what it feels like when a shop gets it wrong.
We choose every piece the way we'd choose it for each other: lovely natural fabrics that feel good against the skin, cuts that flatter real bodies rather than fight them, and sizing we've checked and rechecked ourselves so you're not left guessing. If something doesn't work out, returns are simple, no fuss, no judgement. Pieces that carry you from a quiet morning, to lunch with friends, to an evening out, and always leave you feeling like yourself.
Because that's what this has always been about for the two of us: helping every woman, whatever her age and whatever her size, feel elegant, comfortable, and wonderfully seen.
With love,
Pam & Sue
